Chris Hunt - Pireta

Chris Hunt – CTO & Founder

Chris worked at the National Physical Laboratory where he headed up a multidisciplinary team of scientists looking at material problems in electronics interconnects. Much of this work has been done in collaboration with industry and he is chair of the UK IMAPS committee. In the role of advancing metrology, he has developed test methods and standards. He currently chairs the relevant IEC committee and travels the world giving invited international papers. He identified an interconnect solution for textiles and is one of the two inventors for a patent pending technology for making textiles conductive, as well as the founder of Pireta.

Chris is a Chartered Physicist, and has a BSc from the Institute of Physics, and a PhD from Surrey University.

Ian Russell – Chief Commercial Officer

Ian has over 20 years of experience managing early-stage business ventures working in high-technology sectors that include wearables, wireless communications, digital media and software development. During this time, Ian has built and managed international development, sales and service organizations. He has negotiated multi-million dollar technology licensing contracts and strategic alliances with key vendors and partners. Ian has also led three successful trade sales of early-stage technology-based businesses to publicly listed companies, including one to BlackBerry®.

Ian holds a B.Sc. in Electronic Engineering / Computer Science and a Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering, both from the University of Birmingham, England.

Mario D’Auria – Head of Engineering

Mario worked as freelance consultant, covering a broad spectrum of engineering topics. These included software for equipment interface, micro-controller firmware, electronics, mechanics, and CAD design for prototyping and manufacturing. Before that he worked as factory manager for an additive manufacturing company, where he trained and led a small team.

Mario holds a PhD in Electronic Engineering from Imperial College London during which he explored novel applications for 3-D printing and laser micro-machining.

John Greenwood

John Greenwood – Senior Chemist

John has a masters degree in chemistry from the University of Liverpool and a PhD in chemical physics from the University of St Andrews. During his doctoral work he investigated surface-confined polymerisation reactions utilising scanning probe microscopy and vibrational spectroscopy. He joined the University of Leuven in 2013 as a postdoctoral researcher. His work there involved developing strategies for electrochemical covalent modification of graphene, as well as researching molecular self-assembly and 2D crystal growth on graphitic surfaces. Afterwards, he had a postdoctoral position at the University of Nottingham investigating organic transistors and metal organic frameworks.

Steve Sampson

Steve Sampson – Consultant CFO

Steve is a Chartered Accountant with over 30 years’ commercial knowledge gained in senior finance positions within fast growing businesses. For the last 5 years he has specialised in providing part time FD services to start-ups through his company 19 Corporate Finance. Prior to this he was with Alliance Boots where he completed over 100 value-adding acquisitions, helping the group grow its revenues by 25 times and established the group finance function.

Steve has a BA in Economics from the University of Manchester, and is Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Hamish Laing – Investor

Hamish Laing qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2005 with KPMG, and then worked in Mergers & Acquisitions for Close Brothers Corporate Finance. Between 2007 and 2013 he held senior finance roles with Jardine Matheson in Asia. Since 2015 he has worked with a variety of high growth science and technology ventures. Hamish holds a degree from the University of Oxford in Politics, Philosophy and Economics and was a Sloan Fellow at the London Business School, earning an MSc in Strategy & Leadership with distinction.

Andy Muir

Andy Muir – Investor

Andrew joined Midven in 2004 where he manages the £27M Rainbow Seed Fund, building companies from some of the UK’s best research.

After an initial scientific career at Zeneca Andrew went on to roles in research and business development at the medical device company Biocompatibles and was then Vice President of Technology for Sterilox (now PuriCore), a US start-up in disinfection of medical equipment.

He started his career in VC with NESTA (the National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts). He has a degree and a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Oxford.

Juergen Glazer

Juergen Glazer – Business Development

Juergen K. Glaser is the founder of Jürgen K. Glaser Consulting, a business which assists both established and start-ups in various disciplines. During his 28 year career, Juergen has worked across the world in various industries, including new technologies, textiles, specialty chemicals, functional fluids, healthcare, and food. Most recently he was working for Applied Graphene Materials where he was responsible for the global market of polymers, elastomers, 3-D printing and the role of business development in Europe.

Juergen has a BSc in Polymer Technology from the Montan University Leoben (AT), a BSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Applied Science in Chur Switzerland, as well as qualifications in Marketing, Finance, and Advanced Management from the Sankt Galler Management Institute in Switzerland.
