Our Vision

Wearable technology is on the cusp of a major transformation.

Wearable products are evolving from rigid, enclosed devices – such as smart watches and wrist bands – toward genuinely wearable smart garments based on e-textiles. This trend is being enabled by the availability of new conformal sensors, batteries and other components that have been developed with wear-ability in mind. However, major challenges remain in how to assemble and inter-connect these components on textile substrates – particularly if the performance of the fabric is to be preserved. Until now.

Pireta has developed a unique free-form process to add durable, conductive, metallic patterns to textiles without changing the fabric feel or performance. Pireta’s technology allows electronic systems to be assembled and interconnected directly onto a wide range of fabrics, enabling a new generation of truly wearable smart garments and e-textiles.

The global market for smart garments and textile-based wearables is expanding rapidly. Driven by a rising awareness within sectors such as healthcare, sports and fitness, and the ability to monitor physiological information such as heart rate and blood pressure.

Spun out of the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), a world-renowned scientific research establishment based in the UK, Pireta’s vision is to become synonymous with e-textiles and intelligent garments as the de-facto technology standard for interconnecting electronic systems on fabrics.
